Cooling Load Calculator

Ballpark kW / BTU/hr / tons from equipment load, room dimensions, and temperature difference.

Last Updated: 09 Mar 2026

Ballpark sensible cooling: equipment load with overhead (lights, UPS in space, etc.) plus a simplified transmission term from floor area and indoor vs ambient ΔT. Not a substitute for a full HVAC load study.

Floor area: 48.0 m² · Volume: 144.0

Equipment + overhead: 92.00 kW · Transmission: 1.20 kW

Required sensible cooling ≈ 93.20 kW

318012 BTU/hr · 26.50 tons (US)

Cooling Load Calculator (Server Room / HVAC) helps you ballpark kw / btu/hr / tons from equipment load, room dimensions, and temperature difference. It is commonly used by network admins, IT support teams, ops engineers for cooling load calculator, server room cooling, data center cooling.

Sensible cooling estimate

This tool combines:

  1. **Equipment heat** (kW) plus an **overhead percentage** for in-room extras (lights, small UPS losses, etc.).
  2. A simple **transmission-style** term: floor area × a tunable **W/m²·K** coefficient × the absolute difference between **ambient** and **indoor target** temperature.

It is a planning ballpark, not a full ASHRAE-style load calculation (no solar, latent, or detailed envelope model).

Outputs

  • kW of cooling
  • BTU/hr
  • US refrigeration tons
